Figure 2-8. You ll find out more about the page itself in the next section, but first, let s finish looking at the Solution Explorer. The Solution Explorer is more than just a means to view the files in your project. You can right-click any item in the window to access a context menu of actions that you can take with your solution (see Figure 2-9). To get the solution options, it s best to select the project name at the top of the Solution Explorer and right-click that. Experiment with right-clicking each of the artifacts within the Solution Explorer to see what other actions are available.

The SelectSingleNode() is very similar to the SelectNodes() method that you just learned, with one difference. Instead of returning a list of XmlNode objects in the form of an XmlNodeList, it simply returns the first matching XmlNode. To test this method, you can modify the previous example as shown in Listing 2-11.

Portlets may ask the action request which character encoding was used with the getCharacterEncoding() method. If the portlet needs to change the encoding type from what was specified in the HTTP request, the setCharacterEncoding() method allows the portlet to do so, if the body has not already been accessed using a Reader or translated into request parameters. The getContentLength() method returns the size of the HTTP request s body content. If the portal is unable to determine how big the HTTP request body is, the getContentLength() method will return a value of -1.

As you can see, the menu shown in Figure 2-9 is quite a long list. Let s look at each of these options.

To consume the web service, you need to add a web reference to it first. This is done by rightclicking on the website and choosing Add Web Reference. In the dialog box that appears, you can either specify the complete URL of EcommerceService.asmx or use the Services from This Solution option. Figure B-2 shows this dialog box.

This option invokes the compiler to build each page and element on your web site. The compiler will check your pages for errors and flag them in the Errors window, which is typically in the middle of the IDE, beneath the code window. Figure 2-10 shows an example of this. The error is described in the Errors window, along with metadata such as the file and its location. You can double-click the error description to jump to the error.

The methods on the ActionRequest interface all relate to the body of the end user s HTTP request. This is going to be most useful for reading files uploaded to the portlet using the browser-based file upload mechanism. For portlets, this behavior is similar to that of servlets file uploads are expected to conform to RFC 1867, which is the Form-Based File Upload in HTML protocol. The RFC specifies an extension to the <INPUT> HTML element to allow file uploading through an HTML form. The web browser submits the form with the HTTP POST method. The standard also requires an additional MIME type for uploaded content. The HTTP browsers that implement file upload should encode posted form information that could include uploaded files as the multipart/form-data MIME type. Standard HTML forms that POST to the server without uploaded files have a default encoding MIME type of application/ x-www-form-urlencoded .

Keep the web reference name to the default value of localhost and click the Add Reference button. Visual Studio will add the App_WebReferences folder to your website and will store the web reference files in it.

Drag the yellow line that indicates the time position to the 3 second mark. Go back to the Designer and drag the list from its position off the left-hand side of the screen to the final position that you want it to appear, and set its opacity to 100%. You ll see a few things happen: a new key marker will appear at the 3 second mark, the area between the two markers will be filled in, and a guide line showing the path of the animation will appear on the Designer (see Figure 8-30).
